Live Review: Manchester Orchestra

“Somebody said it’s unspeakable love, well, you don’t believe I can speak well at all, you’re a maze to me” vocalist Andy Hull of Manchester Orchestra sings during “The Maze.” This was the beginning of their setlist at The Marquee Theatre on the 12th of September. Manchester Orchestra, with support from Tigers Jaw and Foxing, wove together classic songs, new hits, and ambient lighting to put on one amazing show in support of their new record A Black Mile To The Surface. The band had a full setlist of 17 songs with a good balance of old and new, and were silhouetted throughout the entire show to reflect the somber nature of their songs.
Foxing showcased their unique sound and played an unreleased song from their upcoming record. Tigers Jaw played a set comprised of songs from their newest record spin and their self-titled record, playing classics such as “The Sun” and “Plane Vs Tank Vs Submarine” and new hits such as “Guardian,” “June,” and “Window.”
Manchester Orchestra then came out to a dramatic rendition of “The Maze” which led right into “The Gold,” accompanied by lighting of the same color. Andy Hull’s live vocals were spectacular, and the crowd was singing along to every word. The highlights of their set were the dramatic performances of “The Grocery” and “Colly Strings,” as both emotional songs had the crowd dramatically singing along. The set culminated with an encore of “I Can Feel A Hot One” and “The Silence,” two emotional songs fitting for the end of a concert. Overall, Manchester Orchestra and its openers put on an amazing show that surely left a lasting impact on everyone in the audience.
