Las Pulseras del Corazón Are Pioneers of Cumbia/Electropop Fusion

by Rolando Rosas

Alternative cumbia duo Las Pulseras del Corazon (“bracelets of the heart” in English) is a collaboration project between Sophie Boscallini and Armand Abagliani. The project was born out of the interest these musicians had in the tropical genre of Cumbia, and they decided to venture into this genre blending in their own musical influences. The result is a very unique form of Cumbia. Though the rhythm of these songs are very much like what you would find in typical Caribbean style of Cumbia, the melody is mostly created with an organ and different keyboard sounds, which gives it a more electro pop and alternative influence.

Las Pulseras del Corazon will release their new EP on the ninth of this month; this is the first time Boscallini and Abagliani have recorded in Spanish. All the proceeds from the EP sales will be donated to animal rescue organizations in Latin America, as helping animals is very important to the Pulseras. This is currently a studio project, but they might tour in the future.
