Local Band Concert Guide: May 2016

by Sam Hoyle

SYNRGY – 5/3

They’re a soul reggae rock group whose roots originate back to Flagstaff, and they’ve played all over the country and hand to, what ever entity you believe in, they’re fantastic. If you even remotely like the reggae sound, you’ll love this band. They’ll be at Last Exit Live on May 3rd for $5. Doors open at 8, and the show starts at 9. The only caveat is that this is a 21+ show.

Trailer Queen – 5/7

They’re a country band based out of Phoenix and they’ll be playing at Cup o’ Karma in Mesa for free on May 7th at 7pm, and this show isn’t a 21+ and it’s free! So head on out there and enjoy Trailer Queen and the other various artists because it’s also an open-mic night.

Ghetto Cowgirl – 5/14

They’re a band out of Tempe, so they hit close to home, and I honestly walked into their music thinking I wouldn’t enjoy it. Boy, was I wrong; their sound is—I know this will sound weird—kind of a mix between an early Killers sound and a late Dave Matthews Band sound, at least to me personally. They’ll be at Last Exit Live on May 14th for $8. Doors at 8, starts at 9 but this is also unfortunately a 21+ show.

Ratio – 5/20

They describe themselves as a band that appeals to “R&B, funk, reggae, and smooth jazz fans.” They’ll be live at the Westgate Entertainment District in Glendale with a bunch of other bands on May 20th. That event starts at 6:30 and goes to 9:30, so head over there if you want to check out Ratio as well as a couple of other bands.

Local Showcase 20 – 5/20-5/21

The Marquee Theater and Luckyman Concerts have put together a show on May 20th and 21st called the “Local Showcase 20” where they’ll be featuring some of your favorite local bands for only $10 each night. There currently aren’t any details on who will be playing but you can check back for updates here. Doors open at 6:30 and it’s an all ages show so bring anyone!
