They used to rule the world seas would rise when they gave the word… Well give it up for the reigning band—Coldplay is back at it.

The band’s seventh album, A Head Full of Dreams will be released December 4th

So while you are relaxing on winter break and detoxing from the stress of finals, consider picking up this seventh album. Lead singer Chris Martin hinted in an interview with Variety that A Head Full of Dreams may be the band’s last hoorah.

Coldplay is shaking things up with this one. Much like other artists who sporadically change their music style (the arguably most media-frenzied and modern example being T-Swift from country to pop), Coldplay has gone from alternative to a blast-from-the-past disco-pop-feel, though it lacks any especially funky tunes so it’s still modernized. However, seeing as how “Adventure of a Lifetime” was the first song to be released off the album, there is still a chance for Coldplay to warm up and give up the funk, the whole funk, and nothing but the funk.

Generally, the song is upbeat and catchy with proclamation of being ‘alive again!’ Beneath the main audio is a sort of hummed chant that is hard to make out, which vaguely takes my attention away from Martin’s lyrics. Still, the instrumentals are hard to deny and the clap-along undertone creates a consistent rhythm that fits well to the message of the song: revival.

Something Coldplay is not giving up is their coy and mischievous way of beating around the bush with rumors of this latest album being their final album. Variety reports Chris Martin said, “I have to think of it as the final thing we’re doing,” he said. “The last Harry Potter book or something like that.” This hints that the band would be breaking up after this last album, a thought more horrifying than that really weird Harry Potter and Voldemort morph fight and Voldy dissolving scene combined.

But I digress… ultimately, it is still up in the air, and the band hasn’t made any official announcements. Overall, I enjoy the newest released “Adventure of a Lifetime” off Head Full of Dreams. I can’t wait to hear more of the upbeat album, now we just have to wait for December 4th. Cheer up, buttercup.
