7 Artists You Need to Know About this Fall

7 Artists You Need to Know About this Fall

by Deanna Romani

What’s the best part about fall? Is it the fact you get to wear cozy sweaters again? Pumpkin Spice Lattes? Fall tours? For me, it’s finding new artists to add to my Spotify playlists and hunting for their CD at the record store. Here are seven artists who caught my eye this summer & should make appearances on everyone’s fall playlists.

Nekokat

For fans of: Young Rising Sons, Night Riots

Indie-pop supergroup Nekokat made their debut this summer with the extended play, Communication. With members of The Ready Set and The Summer Set on their roster, they sure know how to carry a tune and provide feel-good vibes throughout the four-song EP. With a combined fanbase of over 2 million fans, it shouldn’t take much for them to climb the charts.

Vinyl Theatre

For fans of: Walk The Moon, Death Cab For Cutie

One of Fueled By Ramen’s latest additions, Vinyl Theatre, have toured with some of the top acts in the country over the past year. Their debut album, Electrogram, released in the fall of last year, which caught the attention of Alternative Press and named them one of their “bands you have to know in 2015.” Drawing inspiration from bands like Two Door Cinema Club and Death Cab For Cutie, Vinyl Theatre’s electric, colorful vibes can make even the stiffest dance.

PVRIS

pvris

For fans of: Sleeping With Sirens, Paramore

A band that quite literally jumped into the music scene out of thin air, PVRIS were a force to be reckoned with this summer on the Vans Warped Tour. The rock/electronica trio was signed to Rise Records last summer, marking them as the first female-fronted band to sign with Rise. Their debut album, White Noise, was ranked at number 12 on Rock Sound’s “Best Albums of 2014” list. The trio was also awarded “best breakout band” at the Alternative Press Music Awards this year.

MAX

For fans of: Nick Jonas, Childish Gambino

One of COTMA’s artists to watch last semester has taken the pop world by storm. Earlier this year, he announced he was signed to Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz’s record label, DCD2 Records, released his single, “Gibberish,” off of his upcoming full-length debut album, and served as a special guest on Wiz Khalifa and Fall Out Boy’s Boys Of Zummer Tour this past summer. He’s learned to seamlessly incorporate pop, rock, rap, hip hop, and soul into his work, which makes him stand out from other artists, especially at his age.

Jon Bellion

For fans of: twenty one pilots, X Ambassadors

The name “Jon Bellion” might seem a little familiar if you’ve heard Zedd’s latest album, True Colors. Bellion, featured on the track “Beautiful Now,” is a contemporary pop singer who mixes singer-songwriter vibes, R&B, hip hop, and indie rock all together to make completely blissful tracks that are literal music to your ears. Although his debut full-length record was released last year, it was the Zedd single that allowed him to pick up a little bit of speed.

New Beat Fund

new beat fund

For fans of: Holychild, 3OH!3

After touring a full run on the Vans Warped Tour, New Beat Fund’s sound spans over a number of genres and they’ve collaborated with artists such as Night Riots and Mod Sun, definitely emphasizing on the “crossed genres” tag the four are proud of. Ranging from beach rock to California hip-hop vibes, there’s something for everyone, even if you don’t spend your weekends on Venice Beach. Expect lots of neon and California-esque vibes at one of their live shows.

Against The Current

against the current

For fans of: We Are The In Crowd, This Century

Against The Current have been on my personal radar for the past few years, but this year is definitely the year they’re going to break out onto the scene. Recently signed to Fueled By Ramen, the trio consists of three young adults (Chrissy Constanza, Will Ferri, Dan Gow) and they have managed to broaden their fan base since signing with FBR. They’ve toured with numerous acts, such as The Ready Set, Sleeping With Sirens, Set It Off, and more. Their music spans across a number of different genres, most notably a pop punk/pop rock fusion.
