Pain Killer

[Capitol Nashville, 2014]

by Kassey Frazier

Little Big Town has been around since 1998, and they are known for their 14 songs that have hit the top charts for the Billboard Hot County Songs list.  There are four members; Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Jimi Westbrook, and Phillip Sweet; and they have been with the band the whole time.  October 21st marked the day that Pain Killer, the group’s sixth studio album, hit the shelves. The album has a collection of 13 songs each at an average of three minutes in length.  The song that really stuck out was “Quit Breaking Up With Me” because everyone has had a break up in his or her life, and the song is very relatable because you have that one person that means everything but can’t seem to get away form them because, deep down, the two people are madly in love.  It has a rugged sound just like that of the voices of an angry couple after a fight, and the tambourine in the background has a cheerful beat that adds to the lyrics.  Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman give the song some edge as they both sing the whole tune together.  The two ladies’ voices at the same time show two different sides of the emotion put into the song.  Watch out for this song because it will be high on the charts for the country list.
